Anterior Hip Replacement
Patients who require hip replacement surgery may now have a less invasive option available to them.
Unlike traditional hip replacement, the anterior surgical approach allows surgeons to work between muscles and tissue without cutting or detaching the muscle from either the hip or thigh bones. The procedure is completed through a small incision on the front (anterior) of the hip causing less trauma to the surrounding tissues.
This approach allows for an accelerated recovery process and therefore a quicker return to normal activity. Other possible benefits of this procedure are:
- Smaller incision
- Fewer restrictions during recovery
- Potential for stability of the implant sooner after surgery
- Faster rehabilitation
