Maria Parham Franklin Begins Emergency Department Renovation
July 16, 2025

Maria Parham Franklin is pleased to announce the start of a renovation project designed to transform its Emergency Department (ED), with construction set to begin on July 21, 2025. This project will focus on improving care for individuals facing behavioral health challenges.
The purpose of the renovation is to create designated areas within the Emergency Department tailored to meet the unique needs of behavioral health and mental health patients, providing a safer, more supportive environment for patients and care team members, while improving overall hospital efficiency. Additionally, the changes are designed to foster a healthier and more secure hospital environment for patients and visitors alike.
Hospital operations will not be affected by this renovation. The main entrance, registration and entry for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will remain unaffected. Signage will be posted in front of the hospital for additional guidance.
In March, Maria Parham Health in Henderson underwent the first phase of renovations, with the same focus on behavioral health needs. With phase one nearing completion, phase two is set to begin shortly, which includes the portion of Maria Parham Franklin. Phase two is expected to take approximately two months.
This project is made possible through funds allocated to Maria Parham Health in October 2023 as part of a collaborative effort between the Vance County District Attorney’s Office, Granville Vance Public Health, the Vance County Board of Commissioners, and the North Carolina General Assembly. This funding reflects the community’s commitment to improving mental health and substance abuse treatment services in the region.
“We are thrilled to begin this transformative project that will improve the quality of care for some of our most vulnerable community members,” said Bert Beard, Chief Executive Officer of Maria Parham Health. “The renovation will allow us to provide specialized spaces for individuals in behavioral health crises, ultimately improving the care of all our patients. This investment is an important step toward better meeting the needs of our community.”
In addition to the Emergency Department renovation, construction for Maria Parham Franklin’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) has also begun to further support behavioral health challenges within our community. The IOP features evidence-based care appropriate for those who have recently completed a higher level of care or who need more therapeutic benefit than traditional individual therapy or medication management alone. IOP may be recommended by a physician after evaluation of the patient’s comprehensive mental health assessment of presenting problems, treatment goals and recovery needs. Construction is expected to be completed in September 2025.
Maria Parham Health encourages the public to stay informed about the progress of the renovation. For the latest updates, please follow the hospital’s official Facebook page and local news outlets.
Maria Parham Health remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of care, safety, and patient satisfaction throughout this important renovation process.
