Maria Parham Franklin Behavioral Health is pleased to welcome Justin Goolcharan, MD, to its team, bringing a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to psychiatric care to the Franklin County community.
Dr. Goolcharan completed his psychiatry residency at Carilion Clinic in Virginia, where he received training in a variety of psychiatric specialties, including addiction psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, and consultation-liaison psychiatry. His clinical experience also includes outpatient psychiatric care and treatment for opioid use disorder.
Dr. Goolcharan earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George’s University in Grenada in 2021, graduating cum laude. He also earned a Master of Public Health degree from St. George’s University. His medical education and clinical training have helped shape his interest in the complex relationship between physical health, emotional well-being, and mental illness.
“I am passionate about taking a holistic approach to psychiatric medicine and recognizing the important connection between the mind and the body,” said Dr. Goolcharan. “I am also particularly interested in understanding how trauma can contribute to mental illness and how that understanding can inform treatment and support recovery.”
Throughout his training, Dr. Goolcharan has gained experience across multiple psychiatric settings, preparing him to address a broad range of mental health needs. His professional interests include evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and trauma-focused therapies.
In addition to his medical background, Dr. Goolcharan brings experience in medical education, research, entrepreneurship, and community service. He has co-founded initiatives focused on medical education and physician training and has participated in charitable efforts supporting children, families, and individuals experiencing food insecurity. These experiences reflect his commitment to education, collaboration, and finding innovative ways to serve others.
Maria Parham Franklin Behavioral Health is committed to providing compassionate, quality behavioral health services to the communities it serves. The addition of Dr. Goolcharan strengthens that commitment by bringing his diverse clinical training and holistic philosophy of care to the organization.
