Maria Parham Health presented The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses to Amy Darnell during a ceremony held on February 4, recognizing her for exceptional, compassionate care provided in the hospital’s Women & Infants Unit.

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors nurses who demonstrate extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care for patients and families. Maria Parham Health presents the award quarterly to celebrate nurses who go above and beyond in delivering care marked by empathy, advocacy and excellence.

Darnell was nominated for the outstanding care she provided to a patient during the birth of a child. In a written nomination, the patient praised Darnell’s professionalism and compassion throughout the labor and delivery experience.

“From the moment Amy entered my room, her presence brought a sense of calm, confidence, and compassion that made an immeasurable difference in my birthing experience,” the patient wrote. “Throughout my labor and delivery, she demonstrated outstanding clinical expertise and unwavering attentiveness. She anticipated my needs before I voiced them, explained every step with clarity and reassurance, and advocated for me in ways that made me feel safe, supported, and truly cared for. Her ability to balance professionalism with genuine empathy made what could have been an overwhelming experience feel manageable and empowering.”

Bert Beard, CEO of Maria Parham Health, said Darnell exemplifies the organization’s commitment to patient-centered care.

“Amy represents the very best of nursing at Maria Parham Health,” Beard said. “Her clinical excellence, compassion and dedication to her patients reflect our mission and our values. We are incredibly proud to recognize her with The DAISY Award and grateful for the difference she makes in the lives of the families we serve.”

Maria Parham Health congratulates Darnell on this well-deserved honor and thanks her for the extraordinary care she provides each day.
