Maria Parham Health will host a free community Lunch & Learn, “Heart to Heart with Dr. Sawan,” on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, at noon, in recognition of American Heart Month.

The educational event will feature Dr. Mariem Sawan, a Duke Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology, with specialized training in interventional cardiology. Dr. Sawan is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease and completed advanced fellowship training in interventional cardiology, focusing on minimally invasive, catheter-based treatments for heart disease. Her clinical and academic work emphasizes patient-centered care, prevention, and innovative cardiovascular therapies.

During the session, Dr. Sawan will share practical insights on heart health, risk reduction and prevention strategies, and will answer questions from attendees to help them take proactive steps toward better heart health.

“We are proud to bring high-quality cardiovascular education directly to our community,” said Bert Beard, CEO of Maria Parham Health. “Heart disease affects so many families, and opportunities like this empower people with knowledge that can truly save lives. Having Dr. Sawan on our team reflects our commitment to providing access to expert care and trusted information close to home.”

The Lunch & Learn is open to all community members interested in learning more about protecting their heart while enjoying a complimentary lunch. Seating is limited, and advance registration is required.
