Maria Parham Cancer Center welcomes Hematology-Oncology Fellow

September 11, 2018

As a Duke Health affiliate in cancer, the Maria Parham Cancer Center offers access to the latest cancer research and the most current training and staff education.  All of this adds up to an enhanced quality of cancer care, right here in Vance County.

Because of this strong affiliation, the Cancer Center is proud to welcome Hematology-Oncology Fellow Dr. Shekeab Jauhari to its medical staff. Dr. Jauhari completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania and is interested in hematologic malignancies with a focus on lymphoma.. He will continue his Fellowship Program until 2020.

The Duke Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program trains fellows to provide outstanding clinical training in all areas of hematology and medical oncology.

Year one of the Hematology/Oncology training program develops fellows’ skills and experience in the comprehensive care of cancer patients and in the diagnosis and management of hematologic diseases. During their second and third years, fellows continue learning the scientific basis of hematology, hematopoiesis, and cancer pathogenesis, diagnosis and management.

“The Hematology/Oncology Fellows that are being trained at Duke are the cream of the crop of the next generation of oncologists. All the fellows are highly experienced in research, motivated and accomplished and are seeking the best educational experience for their Hematology/Oncology expertise. Having these fellows come here to offer care in our community is fantastic for the caliber of care we are able to give, but also speaks volumes for the quality this cancer center already offers.” said Dr. Ivy Altomare, Duke Oncologist at Maria Parham Cancer Center.

At Maria Parham Cancer Center both chemotherapy and radiotherapy are delivered in a comforting facility by highly trained Duke Providers and caring professionals. Duke oncologists understand the special needs of cancer patients and their families and are always striving to translate clinical research findings into the most advanced therapies. Please call the Center at (252)436-1148 with any questions you may have about treatment, the facility or the fellowship program.
