Maria Parham Health Names 2018 Mercy Award Winner
May 8, 2018
Maria Parham Health recently announced that Jason Overby has been recognized as the hospital’s 2018 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.
The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2002 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.
“At Maria Parham Health, we share LifePoint’s commitment to making communities healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees both on and off the job,” said Bert Beard, CEO of Maria Parham Health. “We are extremely proud to recognize Jason for his efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. He goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person he encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”
Jason has engaged in a number of philanthropic and volunteer roles ranging from raising funds for cancer research to supporting the development of our youths. In particular, Jason has taken on a leadership role in Relay for Life of Vance County since 2007. Jason served as Maria Parham Team Captain for 5 Years in addition to volunteering to be the Vance County Web Committee Chair for Relay, handling update announcements, posting registrations and collections to the website. In 2017, Jason was the overall highest individual fundraiser for Relay for Life of Vance County. As an active member of Tar River Elementary PTSO he chairs the Landscape Committee. In his time as chair over the last two years Jason acquired a Grant from the Granville County Recreation Department to assist with landscape repairs required for playgrounds and he also helped build a reading garden for the students. As a member of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, Jason volunteers at Camp Dayspring, a Christian camp which is a branch of the Cornerstone Conference Discipleship Ministries. These activities represent just a few of those that showcase the comprehensive level of commitment Jason has shown to our community to make it healthier.
Each hospital winner, including Jason, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2018 company-wide Mercy Award. The company-wide winner will be announced this summer and will be honored at a special celebration in Nashville, Tenn., in August, along with all other hospital winners.
