Clinical Trials
Many treatments for cancer today are the result of past clinical trials studies that involve patients. These patient trials are the final step in a long process that begins with lab research. Clinical trials study new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
Having access to clinical trials at the Maria Parham Oncology Center allows patients in Henderson and surrounding areas the opportunity to have new treatments, which may be more effective than current standard treatments. Your doctor will discuss with you if there are clinical studies available that may be right for you, and for which you are eligible. Our part-time clinical research nurse on staff is a resource to our patients providing education about clinical trial opportunities. Our nurse helps screen candidates for eligibility to participate in the trials.
Through our partnership with Duke Medicine, we currently have approximately 18 clinical trials open in the area. Patients can learn more about clinical trials available at Duke Medicine's website by clicking here.
