Project Pink

WE CAN educated our community about early detection.

Because there is power in knowlege, Project Pink was formed and implemented at Maria Parham.

The American Cancer Society projects that there will be 35 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in Vance County. From those projections, statistics show that 10 women will lose their lives to this disease in 2008. Knowlege of how this disease will effect our community helped spurr us to take action and develop Project Pink.

Project Pink is a comprehensive breast health support and educational program sponsored by a grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation. This program is available for uninsured and underinsured women living in our area in need of screening mammograms. A joint effort between Maria Parham Medical Center and Granville Vance District Health Department; Project Pink also provides support resources for women currently diagnosed with breast cancer and are in active treatment.

Funds are awarded through this program will be used to help woemn who are in desperate need of transportation, treatment related needs, medications, and follow-up. Individuals wll be screened through our support staff. Women with little insurance coverage, lack of coverage, and limited financial assistance are encouraged to apply.

Project Pink will also provide approximately 75 screening mammograms and assist with qualitying for participants throughout the year. Education is a major component of the work done by Project Pink. Maria Parham and the Granville-Vane District Health Department will hold multiple breast health seminars. These seminars teach women in our community about breast health issues, breast cancer detection, and treatment. We will provide a Spanish translator so our entire community can participate.
