Update - Affiliation Process
12/1/2010
2010 has been a very productive year for Maria Parham Medical Center. There have been significant improvements in patient care and patient satisfaction. There has also been progress on the strategy of seeking a partner to accelerate even more improvements. As you may recall, we began the affiliation process back in January to identify potential affiliations or partnership possibilities. This complex process has moved along as expected, and last month, the list of potential partners was reduced again.
November was an eventful month for the Board of Directors and the Physician Advisory Council with regard to the affiliation process. Site visits were taken to multiple locations to see the hospitals "in action" and to be able to speak candidly to physicians, Board members, management, and community leaders about how things are working. You will recall that the Board had previously narrowed down the potential partners to two major hospital systems based on criteria such as protecting employees, strengthening the quality of care and financial viability of MPMC, enhancing services, collaborating with the medical staff, and helping the community.
At the November Board meeting, it was decided that the next step would be to develop a non-binding letter of intent that would be mutually agreed upon with one of the potential partners. Over the next sixty days, it is anticipated that work will be done to accomplish this, again keeping the above criteria front and center.
We appreciate your understanding during this time. The Board and Administration particularly appreciate what all of our employees, medical staff members, and volunteers continue to do for the hospital and our community every day. We are proud of what has been accomplished in 2010 and we are excited about what the future holds.
