Maria Parham Celebrates Its Long-Time Employees

5/16/2011

In conjunction with National Hospital Week, Maria Parham recently held their Annual Employee Service Recognition Awards program to honor those who have spent many years as faithful members of the hospital’s staff.  Ms. Ida Marrow, who still currently works in the Laundry of Maria Parham, has been an employee for 45 years.  She began work at the first location of Maria Parham—on Chestnut Street, and then moved to the new location in the mid 1960’s, when it was built on Ruin Creek Road.  She began work in what was then the housekeeping department, which also performed the laundry duties for the hospital.  At that time, the laundry area in the hospital was equipped with only one washer and one dryer.

Her supervisor, Mary Ellen Seyer, the manager of the Housekeeping and Laundry Department, says that Marrow has taken the many changes through the years in stride and that she is extremely reliable and comes to work in any kind of bad weather.  Seyer went on to say that Marrow “seems to want to work another 45 years”, as she smiled.

Employees were honored with entertainment, delicious food prepared by the hospital’s dietary staff, and a video presentation of old photographs and memories of their time spent at Maria Parham.  In addition to Marrow, Kathy Abbott was honored for 35 years of service, and Julia Bass, Evelyn Cable, Linda Greene and Nancy Strickland were honored with 30 years.  Kathy Bray, Roy Harris, and Shandolyn Moore were all honored with 25 years of working for Maria Parham.  In addition, many more employees were honored for working for 20, 15, 10 and 5 years at the hospital.

Maria Parham would sincerely like to thank the employees who were recognized this year at the Annual Awards Program.  Their many, many years of service to the hospital and their dedication to helping our community are very much appreciated.
