Maria Parham Medical Center’s Chief Finance Officer Named a Triangle Business Journal ‘CFO of the Year’ Award Winner
Maria Parham is pleased to announce that Jim E. Chatman, their Chief Finance Officer, was recently named a winner in the Triangle Business Journal’s 2010 CFO of the Year Awards. Awards were presented to professionals in the Triangle who exemplify excellence as corporate financial stewards. Forty-seven finalists were recognized and 17 winners were named in 12 categories at the awards luncheon on Thursday, July 15 at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh. Chatman won in the category for ‘Large Private Company’ and has been Maria Parham’s CFO for a little over five years.
Triangle Business Journal, a weekly business newspaper, is the leading provider of local business news for the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina.
“Our CFO of the Year Awards were launched as a way to reward and recognize the best performing finance executives in the Triangle,” says Charlene Grunwaldt, publisher, Triangle Business Journal. “This year’s winners have displayed a remarkable track record of professional achievements and nonprofit involvement, and our community is better off for their many contributions.”
In Chatman’s interview with the publication after receiving this important distinction, he credits his parents with having been mentors for him through the years in establishing his strong work ethic and says the best advice that he ever received was—if you work hard and do right by other people, then all else will fall into place. In describing what makes him a top CFO, Chatman mentions that a successful CFO does have a strong work ethic and is a good, positive role model for all employees in the organization. He goes on to say that a good leader is willing to roll up his sleeves and help others solve problems while communicating a passion for the business and its people.
Chatman quickly points out that a good leader is only as successful as his employees. He says, “My success is dependent upon their success, and we have all accomplished much over the years. I really appreciate all they have done and continue to do for Maria Parham.”
Outside of work, Chatman enjoys physical fitness and outdoor activities like boating, camping and fishing. He is also a self proclaimed history buff and is involved with his church and the Henderson/Vance County Chamber of Commerce.
