Maria Parham’s Breedlove a Finalist for Prestigious Mercy Award

This spring, Maria Parham Medical Center named its first LifePoint Mercy Award Winner, Hope Breedlove.  Breedlove is the Social Worker for The Cancer Center at Maria Parham Medical Center and for Maria Parham Regional Home Health. She has been employed with Maria Parham for over 10 years.

LifePoint Hospitals’ Mercy Award recognizes one employee who best exemplifies the spirit and values upon which the company was founded. Named after Scott Mercy, founding Chairman and the first CEO, the Mercy Award is the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.  Breedlove was chosen from all the employee nominations throughout the hospital and represented Maria Parham as LifePoint chose one companywide winner from among all its 50 + facility winners.

The Mercy Award winner embraces the ‘High Five’, which are five principles that LifePoint facilities hold as extremely important.  These are to Deliver High Quality Patient Care, Create Excellent Workplaces for Their Employees, Support Physicians, Provide Community Value and Ensure Fiscal Responsibility.  In addition, the winners must consistently go beyond the call of duty in serving patients and the community, demonstrate a level of commitment and caring that transcends the everyday, respect others in everything they do, and inspire others with compassion, dedication and a merciful spirit.

Maria Parham was recently notified that while Breedlove was not the national company-wide award winner, she was in the top 10 finalists from which the individual was chosen.

When asked how she felt about being the very first Mercy Award recipient for Maria Parham and then placing in the top ten for ALL the LifePoint facilities, Breedlove says, “I am extremely honored to be Maria Parham’s Mercy Award winner.  It is very exciting to be recognized, and it is a blessing to work with such a special group of people in such a wonderful community.”  She continues by saying, “Then to find out how I placed company-wide, it was just overwhelming.  I truly love what I do!”

Catherine Blankenship, Director of Maria Parham Regional Home Health and The Cancer Center at Maria Parham Medical Center is Breedlove’s supervisor.  She is very proud of her and says, “Hope’s colleagues and patients clearly see every day why she was selected for this award.  In fact, one of her co-workers summed it up by saying ‘Hope gives these patients hope and the will to keep trying when they feel like giving up.  She shows them love and compassion, and when they are feeling their worst, she gives them encouragement to try’.”
