Bernstein Re-Appointed to State Commission for the Blind
Daniel Bernstein, MD, an ophthalmologist with Four County Eye Associates, was recently notified of his re-appointment to the Professional Advisory Committee for the Commission for the Blind by the Governor’s Office. Dr. Bernstein has been an ophthalmologist for many years and was one of the first specialists associated with Maria Parham Medical Center in the 1970’s. He opened Four County Eye Associates in January of 1976, and the office moved from the JW Jenkins Building at Maria Parham to its present location in the Henderson Professional Plaza in 1990. At the same time, he brought in an associate on August 1, 1990—Dr. Cynthia Hampton.
Over the years, Dr. Bernstein has served in various capacities for the Hospital including Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery. He is also a member of several professional groups, including the NC Medical Society, the AMA, the NC Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and Prevent Blindness NC. Dr. Bernstein has also been a member of the Henderson Kiwanis Club for 35 years.
According to the National Federation of the Blind’s (NFB) website, there are 1.3 million people who are considered legally blind in the United States. Of his re-appointment to one of our state’s organizations serving these individuals, Dr. Bernstein comments, “I am really looking forward to continuing the work of this important committee. There are so many issues surrounding being visually impaired—knowledge about services offered, access to those services—just to name a couple. It is important to educate both those in need of the services and the ones caring for them.”
