Annual Prostate Screening Scheduled

at Maria Parham Hits Milestone

This is the 20th year that local doctors have volunteered their time and expertise to the men of our community for the Annual Prostate Screening.  Three local physicians--Dr. Adrian Ogle, Dr. Gary Smith and Dr. Ben Dieter-- and Maria Parham Medical Center have once again planned a prostate cancer screening for local men.  This FREE screening will be held Wednesday, September 19 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Maria Parham Medical Center.  PLEASE NOTE: Participants are asked to enter the Main Entrance of the hospital.   Someone will meet you there to direct you further.

Men over the age of 50 should see their doctor once a year for a complete medical examination that includes a prostate checkup.  The American Cancer Society recommends that men at high risk—African-American men and men who have a father, brother, or son diagnosed with prostate cancer before age 65—begin screenings at age 45. Men at higher risk—those with multiple family members affected by the disease before age 65—should start even earlier, at age 40.  Men in this age range are strongly encouraged to take part in this annual no-cost event.

Dr. Ogle is a local urologist in private practice, Dr. Smith is a family practitioner with Four County Primary Care, one of Maria Parham’s hospital owned practices, and Dr. Dieter is a family practitioner in private practice with Vance Family Medicine.

No appointments are necessary to attend this free screening, but anyone seeking additional information may call Lee Anne Peoples at Maria Parham at (252) 436-1116.
